Wood Scrambles to Make the Cut at State Tourney (w/VIDEO)

10-6-wood

Weston Wood found himself in a tough spot Friday. The University Heights Academy had hit his second shot on the par-5 18th hole directly behind a tree. He knew he needed to finish strong to have a chance at making the cut at the Leachman Auto/KHSAA State Golf Tournament at the Bowling Green Country Club.

Wood was able to get on the green and salvage a bogey, which left him with a score of 5-over par 77. The score was good enough to make the cut to the second round of his first state tournament.

The UHA junior shot 3-over on the front nine and 2-over on the back nine. His round consisted of 10 pars and two birdies – both on the back nine.

Wood entered Saturday’s second round tied for 36th. He is the first UHA golfer in six years to play in the state golf tournament.
