After Hopkins Central upset Madisonville in the semifinals of the 7th District volleyball tournament, some may have wondered if the Caldwell County Lady Tigers might overlook the Lady Storm headed into the 7th District championship game Tuesday night at Madisonville. That did not even come close to happening.

The Lady Tigers opened fast, and closed out the match quick, dispatching the Lady Storm in straight sets 25-8, 25-10, and 25-17, to take home the championship trophy.

Caldwell County was leading in the first set 6-4, when the match for all practical purposes was decided. The Lady Tigers went on a 15-0 run to take a 21-4 lead. Caldwell County cruised through the remainder of the set to win 25-8. Sheadon Allen dominated the opening set, coming up with 11 kills.

The second set was also over before it really began. Caldwell County opened the second set 8-0 and was never threatened from that point, winning the set 25-10. Abby Griggs, Olivia Mitchell, and Sheadon Allen combined for 9 kills in the set.

The third set looked like it would be more of the same, as the Lady Tigers jumped out to a 14-7 lead. Hopkins Central fought back, and got within one point on a couple of occasions, before Caldwell County inched back to to the final eight point margin to close out the match three sets to none.

It was definitely Sheadon Allen’s night at the net, as she came up with 21 kills for the match.

Caldwell County improves to 23-9, while Hopkins Central falls to 18-14. Both teams will advance on to the 2nd Region volleyball tournament, which will be played next week at Union County.
