Tilghman Gets Rare Win Over Hopkinsville

In a season-opening battle of teams picked in the top three in their respective regions, Paducah Tilghman outscored Hopkinsville 32-23 in the fourth quarter on their way to an 80-65 at Otis Dining Gymnasium in Paducah.

The game was tied 16-16 after one quarter with Tilghman leading by six points at both halftime (32-26) and after three quarters (48-42).

Tilghman led by as many as eight points in the third quarter, and Hoptown cut it back to four points on three occasions.

The Blue Tornado used a 6-0 run to start the fourth quarter and took control of the game.

Junior Don Victor led Hopkinsville with 18 points, with senior Jacarius Burks scoring 11 points, and sophomore Alijah Watts scoring 10 points. 7-foot-2 senior Jamarion Sharp scored eight points off the bench.

Michael Laster had 25 points for Paducah Tilghman, who hadn’t beaten Hopkinsville in over 20 years. The Tiger loss snapped an eight-game winning streak in season openers.

Hopkinsville will travel to Kenwood, Tenn. Friday.
