Lady Wildcats Snap 45-Game District Losing Streak With Win Over Crittenden

12-1-bush

It was a long time coming, but the Trigg County Lady Wildcats beat Crittenden County 39-32 Friday and snapped a 45-game district losing streak in the process. Trigg’s last district win came in 2012 against the Lady Rockets.

Trigg County grabbed the lead with 3:17 left in the first quarter and never lost it again. Crittenden scored the first four points of the game, but Trigg County answered with the next 10 points to end the quarter.

Every time Crittenden County made a run at Trigg County, the Lady Wildcats seemed to have an answer. Trigg led 18-11 at halftime and pushed the lead to 20-11 to start the third quarter, but Nahla Woodward answered with 3-pointers on consecutive trips to bring the Lady Rockets to within 20-18.

Up 22-20, Trigg County scored the final five points of the third quarter for a 27-20 lead. Crittenden again made a run at the Lady Wildcats, drawing to within two points twice on buckets by eighth grader Taylor Guess – the last coming at 31-29 with 2:45 left. Crittenden would make one field goal the rest of the way.

T.T. Grubbs scored consecutive buckets to trigger an 8-3 game-ending run for the Lady Wildcats.

Trigg County, who made just 13-of-34 free throws in a season opening loss to Paducah Tilghman Tuesday, made 11-of-17 Friday. Trigg scored 25 points off 27 Lady Rocket turnovers that proved to be the difference in the game.

Grubbs and Bethany Stallons each scored 10 points for Trigg County, while Rylee Bush added seven points.

Crittenden County (1-1) got 10 points from Guess and nine points and 12 rebounds from Chandler Moss.

Trigg County (1-1) will play in the Whitesville Trinity Shootout Saturday against Ohio County and Owensboro.
