Both Trigg County and University Heights felt good after weekend wins that got their girls’ basketball seasons off to good starts. However, UHA was able to build further on their win and hand Trigg County a 45-34 setback at Blazer Gym Tuesday.

UHA picked up a pair of wins at the Trinity Shootout Friday and Saturday and played with confidence in the second half after trailing by eight in the first half.

Trigg County, who snapped a 45-game district losing streak Friday with a win over Crittenden County, did not play with the same intensity as they did against the Lady Rockets, and it cost them throughout the game.

The Lady Wildcats never trailed in the first half. They led 7-4 after one quarter and extended it to 10-4 on a Katelyn Slone 3-pointer inside the first thirty seconds of the second quarter. Trigg led 14-6 and then didn’t score over the final 5:22 of the first half.

Meghan Adams scored five points during an 8-0 UHA run to end the first half and tie the game at 14-14.

The Lady Blazers extended their run to 13 straight points on a Lily Hendricks bucket with 7:09 left in the third quarter. Trigg countered back in the frame, which featured four ties and five lead changes over the final 6:19.

Alex Juckett ended the third quarter with a bucket to give the Lady Blazers a 29-27 and spark a 9-0 run. Trigg never got closer than seven points the rest of the way.

UHA outrebounded Trigg 39-33 and had 20 offensive rebounds that led to 12 second chance points. The Lady Blazers shot 44-percent from the field in the second half with 40-percent of their points coming from 10-feet in.

Aisha Pantiere had 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Lady Blazers. Juckett added 12 points. Adams had 11 points and 14 rebounds, while Lily Hendricks chipped in with eight points and six steals.

Trigg County battled foul trouble with only one starter playing more than 20 minutes. Slone hit five 3-pointers and finished with 15 points. Rylee Bush added nine points and six rebounds, and Marleigh Reynolds added four points.

The Lady Wildcats shot 21-percent from the field and only went to the free throw line 14 times, making eight.

UHA, who has beaten Trigg County five straight times dating back to 2009, improves to 3-1 and will travel to Christian Fellowship Friday.

Trigg County, who hasn’t won a game in Blazer Gym since 2005, falls to 1-4 and will host Livingston Central Friday in a Fifth District contest.
