Webster County keeps their foothold atop the YSE Girls’ Basketball Super 7 with some shuffling expected to take place in the next three weeks as some teams begin district play ahead of the holiday tournaments.

1) Webster County (3-0) – The Lady Trojans have been impressive in the first two weeks of the season. Their only game against region competition was a 44-point win over No. 6 Hopkins County Central. They have also given Bowling Green their only loss in three games, and most people have the Purples as a Top-3 team in the Fourth Region. They will get two upcoming tests against Ballard and Graves County.

2) Christian County (2-1) – The Lady Colonels had some issues scoring in their first two games, but their defense was pretty solid. Their defensive play helped them score a 46-44 win over Breckinridge County, picked by some to win the Third Region this year. The schedule doesn’t let up for the Lady Colonels with Bullitt East, Owensboro, and Calloway County on the upcoming slate.

3) Hopkinsville (4-1) – The Lady Tigers cruised to four straight wins before encountering a speed bump in a 49-38 loss to defending First Region champion Murray. They have two district games among the five on the schedule before they play in the Owensboro Invitational Tournament at the end of the month.

4) Henderson County (1-2) – The Lady Colonels appeared to pick up an impressive five-point win over Apollo in the season opener. Then, the E-Gals struggled to beat Union County. Their 13-point loss to Elizabethtown, a preseason Fifth Region favorite, was more impressive. Henderson will not play a Second Region school until January 4 and only have three on their schedule for the season – Hopkins County Central, Hopkinsville, and Christian County.

5) Madisonville (2-0) – The Lady Maroons beat Union County 59-42. Union lost to Henderson County 52-47. So, Madisonville should be ranked ahead of Henderson, right? No so fast. Comparing scores can be a dangerous practice in such a small sample size. Madisonville has a chance to strengthen their resume in the coming week against No. 6 Hopkins County Central, and No. 1 Webster County.

6) Hopkins County Central (2-1) – The Lady Storm began 2-0 and then got thumped by 44 points by No. 1 Webster County. While they have one of the better frontline players in the region in Nykea Ikeard (9.0 ppg., 6.7 reb.), Coach Nancy Oldham knows her backcourt holds the key to their season.

7) Caldwell County (2-2) – The Lady Tigers followed a strong performance against No. 2 Christian County with a loss to Union County. A bounce-back win over Crittenden County keeps them in the Super 7 for the time being. However, they can craft a move up the ladder with impressive showings in their Holiday Tournament appearances.
