Late Bucket Gives Dawson Springs Surprise Win Over Lyon County

12-8-shoulders

Skylar Clark’s layup with one second left gave Dawson Springs a surprise 84-83 win over Lyon County and spoiled a 37-point afternoon by Lyon’s seventh grader Travis Perry.

Perry drained a 3-pointer on the left wing with eight seconds left to give the Lyons an 83-82 lead. Perry scored 13 points in the fourth quarter and was 12-of-15 at the line for the game.

After Perry’s go-ahead bucket, Dawson drove the floor, and Clark got behind the defense for the game-winning shot. The junior guard led the Panthers with 28 points. Landon Pace added 24 points for Dawson Springs, who hit ten 3-pointers in the game.

Lyon County led 44-36 at halftime, but Dawson Springs used a 13-3 run to take a 49-47 lead in the third quarter. Neither team led by more than six points the rest of the way.

Nick Whalin scored 14 points for Lyon County, and Jackson Shoulders added 13 points.

The 83 points scored in the loss are the most by the Lyons since a 101-86 loss to Hopkinsville in 2002.

Lyon County (3-3) will travel to Union County Monday and host Webster County Tuesday.

Dawson Springs is now 3-2 and will host another Fifth District team Tuesday, Livingston Central.
