Hoptown Uses First Half Runs to Rout Fort Campbell

An early 15-0 run was essentially all the Hopkinsville Tigers needed Friday night as they rolled by Fort Campbell 66-23 in an 8th District matchup. The win completed the Tigers first run through district competition, with the Tigers standing 2-1 in 8th District play.

After the two teams exchanged free throws to open the game, Hopkinsville, led by Jacarius Burks and James Nicholas, ripped off a 15-0 run to take a 16-1 lead with 2:29 to go in the first quarter. Burks and Nicholas went on to score 10 points each in the quarter, as the Tigers bolted out to a 25-7 lead at the end of the quarter.

The Tigers would go on to use another first half run to put the game out of reach in the 2nd quarter. With Hoptown leading 31-11 and 4:35 to go in the half, the Tigers went on a 9-0 run to push the lead out to 40-11. The two teams headed off to the locker room at the break with the Tigers leading the Falcons 40-14.

Hopkinsville opened the second half outscoring Fort Campbell 13-4 to push the lead out to 53-18. The 35 point margin enacted the running clock for the rest of the contest. The 3rd quarter ended with the Tigers up 60-20.

Between the running clock and the Hopkinsville defense, Fort Campbell was limited to only one field goal in the second half of play.

James Nicholas led the Hopkinsville attack with 21 points. Jacarius Burks was the only other Tiger to reach double figures with 12.

Fort Campbell was paced by Jaylen Allen with 7 points. Cameron Johnson, Doryan Hall, and Cameron Pratt all had three points each.

Hopkinsville improves to 10-8 overall and 2-1 in district play. Fort Campbell drops to 5-7 overall, and 0-2 in the 8th District.
