Lady Purples Pull Away From Christian County

The Christian County girls’ basketball team fell 53-42 to visiting Bowling Green on Tuesday night, snapping a 3-game win streak and leaving them at 10-7 on the season.  The Lady Purples win their seventh-straight to improve to 14-4 overall.

The opening quarter was back and forth, before Christian County’s Aaliyah Hampton came up with a steal and a bucket with :30 left for a 9-8 lead.  Keyozdon Jones scored 6 points for the Lady Purples.

Eniya McGee scored off a pass from Trinity McGee to give the Lady Colonels a 5-point lead two minutes into the second quarter.  T’Alla Brown converted a couple of free throws to pull the Lady Purples even at 16-16, before Saniyah Shelton drilled a 3 to give Bowling Green a lead it would hold the rest of the way.

After trailing by 3 at the half, the Lady Colonels found themselves down 8 two minutes into the third, after a bucket by Bowling Green’s Kiyah Gray.  Kinara Phillips scored 4 of her 6 third-quarter points to trim the lead to a bucket at 33-31, but the Lady Colonels trailed by 4 with a quarter to play.

Hampton hit 1 of 2 free throws to start the fourth, with Phillips pulling down the rebound and assisting a basket by Trinity McGee to cut the margin to 1.  The Lady Purples responded with a 6-0 run over the next couple of minutes to build the lead to 7.  For the rest of the way the Lady Colonels could get no closer than 5, and Brown got the last 2 of her 10 fourth-quarter points for the final points of an 11-point Bowling Green victory.

Brown finished with a game-high 17 for the Lady Purples, followed by Jones with 16.

Trinity McGee battled foul trouble but still led the Lady Colonels with 14 points.  Hampton finished with 12, including 7 in the final quarter, and Phillips added 6.
