When two inconsistent teams get together on the basketball court, you can expect a game of spurts and big leads dwindled to nothing. That’s exactly what happened in Hopkins County Central’s 67-56 win over Trigg County Tuesday in Morton’s Gap.

The Storm built a 19-point second quarter lead and kept their advantage in double-digits the entire third quarter. Trigg County continued to chip away at the Storm lead and pulled to within 56-55 on a Kion Thompson bucket with 3:12 left. It would be their last field goal of the game as the Storm closed on an 11-1 run for the final margin.

Trigg began the game slow, hurt by 12 first half turnovers that led to 16 Hopkins Central points. The Wildcats fell behind 18-7 after one quarter and trailed 32-18 by halftime.

The Wildcats cut back on their turnovers in the third quarter and slowly chipped away at the deficit, trailing 51-41 heading into the fourth quarter.

After Trigg cut the lead to one, Tylan Mann and Blasin Moore combined for nine of the final 11 points for Hopkins Central to seal the win.

Mann finished with a game-high 27 points along with eight rebounds and six steals. Moore had 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Storm, and Ethan Putty scored 14 points.

Kendric Adams scored 14 points and grabbed six rebounds. Jakobe Bridges added 11 points and seven rebounds. Trigg also got good play off the bench from Hayden Cunningham (8 points/two rebounds) and Tae Thompson (3 points/4 rebounds).

While Hopkins Central hit just 11-of-25 at the free throw line, they countered by shooting 60-percent from the field in the second half.

Hopkins Central improved to 7-9 with the win. They host Caldwell County Thursday.

Trigg County dropped to 6-12 with their seventh straight loss. The Wildcats play at Crittenden County Friday in a make-up game from last Friday.
