Christian County’s late comeback fell just short Thursday in the opening round of the Toyota Classic in Georgetown as they fell 57-56 to Trinity Catholic of Ocala, Fla.

The game was close throughout the first half, with the Celtics holding a 28-27 halftime lead over the Colonels. Trinity Catholic, who finished as runner-up in Florida Class 5A last year, outscored Christian County 20-10 in the third quarter. The Celtics hit 10-of-17 shots from the floor in the second half.

However, the Colonels used an 11-0 run in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 50-50.

The Celtics hit just enough free throws over the final two minutes to seal the win.  Christian County put up 13 more shots than the Celtics, but Trinity Catholic hit four more 3-pointers.

Eric Brody knocked down four 3-pointers and finished with 16 points before fouling out late. Damikeon Mathis added 12 points, and Olajuwon White scored eight points and pulled down 10 rebounds.

Montez Leath had 17 points and six assists for Trinity Catholic (10-4).

Christian County (9-11) will play Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach, SC Friday in the consolation bracket.
