Colonels Conclude Toyota of Classic Play on Winning Note

Christian County broke open a close game in the second quarter and held off Wayne County 69-61 in their final game of the Toyota Classic at Scott County High School.

The game was close early, featuring three ties, before the Colonels turned a 13-12 first quarter deficit into a 30-24 halftime lead. Christian County extended it to 47-37 after three quarters before holding on for the eight-point win.

For the second straight game, the Colonels were efficient on offense. They shot 59-percent from the field (26/44) and hit 11-of-15 at the free throw line.

Eric Brody scored 22 points and added five rebounds to lead the Colonel effort. Stephen Bussell added 15 points. Both he and Brody connected on a trio of 3-pointers. Fred Tandy and DaMikeon Mathis each scored eight points.

Thomas Spencer scored 22 points to lead Wayne County (15-6), who dropped all three of their games at the Toyota Classic.

Christian County evens their record at 11-11 on the season and will host Castle, Ind. Thursday at Lyle Dunbar Gymnasium.
