Caldwell County’s girls bounced back from a disappointing loss to Lyon County on Thursday and reached a program milestone in the process.

Saturday’s 52-39 victory at Crittenden County was the 700th in the program’s history.

Three Lady Tigers scored in double figures, as Caldwell began to find its offensive footing again in the second half after struggling in the 40-34 loss to Lyon.

Caldwell, now 9-11, led most of the way in Marion. However, Crittenden (10-10) battled back after trailing 21-15 at the break and took the lead at 29-28 following a driving layup by Shelby Summers with 2:38 left in the third period.

Caldwell regained the lead when Bella McConnell found Majah Hollowell alone under the basket. That started an 8-2 burst that put the Lady Tigers up 36-31.

But the Lady Rockets got a 3-pointer from Taylor Guess just ahead of the buzzer to cut the margin to 36-34 entering the final frame.

Caldwell took control of the contest over the first 5 minutes of the fourth quarter, outscoring the Lady Rockets 8-0 over that time to extend the margin to double figures at 44-34.

Crittenden could get only as close as six points after that.

The Lady Rockets were within 45-39 with just over 2 minutes to play, but Caldwell finished the game with seven straight points to put away the victory.

Caldwell forced Crittenden into 24 turnovers in the contest while the Lady Tigers had eight miscues.

McConnell led a balanced Caldwell scoresheet with 14 points. Jada Boyd had 12 points and Jacey Jaggers finished with 11.

Summers topped Crittenden with 15 points while Guess added 12.

Caldwell has beaten the Lady Rockets twice this season, including a 48-38 decision at Dec. 4 in Princeton.

Caldwell’s girls now have an all-time record of 700-520.

The Lady Tigers have a pair of important 7th District games coming up next week. Caldwell will host Hopkins County Central and Madisonville-North Hopkins for girls and boys doubleheaders on Tuesday and Friday.
