Trigg County Coach Payton Croft had been waiting for his team to put four quarters of productive basketball together in the same game. He got it Saturday.

Trigg’s defense scored 44 points off 28 Fulton City turnovers, and Kyron Grubbs narrowly missed a school record in a 78-42 win Saturday in Fulton.

Grubbs scored 25 points, including 16 in the third quarter. He finished the game with 12 steals, one shy of Lemar Northington’s single-game record set in 1997 and second most in Wildcat history.

Trigg County led by 14 points before settling for a 33-23 halftime advantage. Fulton City responded with the first seven points of the third quarter to cut the deficit to 33-30. Then, Trigg’s defense took over. They forced 11 Fulton turnovers in the quarter and scored a season-high 31 points on 13-of-19 shooting from the field.

The Wildcats continued the onslaught in the fourth quarter, going to the bench with six minutes left in the game.

Trigg County shot 48-percent from the field and hit eight 3-pointers. They also held a 33-17 advantage on the boards.

Jakobe Bridges scored a season-high 21 points and chipped in with six steals. Khyran Vaughn added nine points and seven rebounds, and Hayden Cunningham scored eight points in his first start of the season.

Fulton City (6-16) got 17 points from Cam Madding.
