Lady Wildcats Outmatched in Loss to Calloway County

Trigg County ran into one of the First Region’s top teams and top player Friday as Calloway County handed the Lady Wildcats a 59-23 loss in Murray.

Charlee Settle asserted her dominance early as the 6-2 junior scored 18 points in the first half and at one point, reeled off 11 straight points in the third quarter. She finished the game with 29 points, 10 rebounds, and seven blocked shots.

Calloway led 13-8 with 1:39 left in the quarter before turning up their pressure defense that sparked a 14-2 run for a 27-10 lead. Trigg County got as close as 14 points but never any closer as a running clock went into effect early in the fourth quarter.

Ellie Carson added 19 points for Calloway County (18-5), who knocked down 7-of-23 from 3-point range.

Adri Phillips led Trigg County with eight points and four rebounds. Marleigh Reynolds added six points for Trigg County, who hasn’t beaten Calloway County since 1984 – a span of 11 games.

Trigg County (9-13) will play at Fulton City Saturday afternoon at two.
