Gabe Board didn’t play in Lyon County’s 55-50 win over Trigg County last month, a game the Lyons trailed heading into the fourth quarter. Tuesday, Board was the x-factor for the Lyons as they handled Trigg County from the beginning in a 68-52 win in Cadiz.
He scored just two points in the first quarter but handed out three assists and had two steals. He heated up in the second quarter with eight points – all four buckets coming after offensive rebounds. Board finished with 23 points, 12 rebounds and six assists.
Travis Perry had 10 points in the first quarter as the Lyons built a 23-9 lead. Trigg scored the final five points of the quarter, including a half-court shot by Gavin Grubbs to end the frame, for a 23-14 Lyon advantage. It was the last time the game was in single-digits the rest of the night.
The Lyons built their advantage to 15 points by halftime and led by as many as 26 points in the third quarter.
Trigg County struggled to hit shots early, shooting 30-percent in the first half and 35-percent for the game. Lyon County shot 50-percent and hit 10-of-18 from behind the arc.
In addition to Board, Perry (18 points) and Kade Blackburn (15 points) joined him in double-figures. Jackson Shoulders had six points and six rebounds.
Trigg County got 15 points and 10 rebounds from Kendric Adams. Hayden Cunningham came off the bench to score eight points, and Kion Thompson had seven points and four steals. Trigg County’s bench outscored Lyon’s 23-2.
Lyon County improved to 14-8 with the win and 6-0 in the district – their first unbeaten regular season in district play since 2010. They will play at Fort Campbell Thursday.
Trigg County drops to 8-15 with the loss. They will either be a three or four seed in the district tournament and will host Dawson Springs next Tuesday.
