Caldwell County’s girls didn’t get a win against 7th District foe Madisonville-North Hopkins on Friday night, but the Lady Tigers may have gained some much-needed confidence for the approaching district tournament.

The Lady Tigers were routed 68-33 just over three weeks ago in Madisonville in a game that was decided well before halftime. But the rematch in Princeton was a down-to-the-wire affair, with the Lady Maroons escaping the CAB gym with a 69-66 decision.

Down by as much as nine points in the fourth quarter, Caldwell (10-12 overall, 2-3 district) got late 3-pointers from Bella McConnell and Jacey Jaggers to pull within 67-66 with 15 seconds to play.

Madisonville (18-6, 6-0) got two free throws from freshman guard Camryn LaGrange with 6.4 seconds left to make it a three-point game.

Caldwell had one final chance to try to extend the game following a timeout, but Madisonville’s defense bottled up the Lady Tigers in the backcourt, and Caldwell wound up not getting a shot off before the final buzzer.

LaGrange finished with 24 points to lead the Lady Maroons. Lindsey Peyton had 14 points and 13 rebounds while Courtney Peyton added 13 points and Kara Franklin had nine points.

McConnell led the Lady Tigers with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Peyton Young hit five 3-pointers and finished with 17 points while Jaggers tallied 13 points. Jada Boyd had nine points for Caldwell.

Madisonville led 33-31 at halftime and 48-43 through three quarters but could never quite shake the Lady Tigers, even after building the nine-point edge in the final stanza.

Next up for Madisonville is a trip to Lyon County on Tuesday.

Caldwell will visit the 1st Region on Saturday for an afternoon date at Mayfield. The Lady Tigers will play at home again on Thursday when they host Dawson Springs for their final district tilt of the regular season.
