Colonels Pull Away From Fort Campbell in 2nd Half

It was not as easy as the final score might indicate, as the Christian County Colonels picked up an 8th District win over the Fort Campbell Falcons Tuesday night at Colonel Gym. The Colonels were finally able to subdue the Falcons in the second half, using a big run to open the 3rd quarter to get the 79-50 win.

The game opened tight with the two teams tied at 2-2, 4-4, and 6-6. Christian County then looked like ti might run away with the game. The Colonels ripped off a 10-0 run to go up 16-6 with under two minutes to go in the opening quarter. Christian County would hold a 20-8 lead when the quarter came to an end. Fred Tandy had a big opening quarter for the Colonels.

Christian County scored the first five points of the second quarter, and looked to be rolling along with a 25-8 lead. Behind the play of Hall, the Falcons made a big move to get right back into the contest. They would outscore the Colonels by 19-6 to cut the lead to four at 31-27 with 1:45 to go in the half. As the half came to an end, Christian County was in a battle, holding to a 36-29 lead.

The momentum of the game completely took a swing in the Colonels favor as the second half got underway. Christian County opened the 3rd quarter ripping off a 12-0 run to go up 48-29. Fort Campbell responded with a 7-0 run of their own late in the quarter to draw within 12, but that would be as close as the Falcons would get. Christian County was up 52-38 when the quarter ended.

The Colonels then put the game away for good early in the 4th quarter. Christian County opened the final eight minutes with a 10-0 run that pushed the lead out to 62-38 and the Colonels were never threatened again, as they rolled on out to the final 29 point margin.

Four Colonels reached double figures on the night. Fred Tandy led the way with 15 points. Eric Brody added 14. Damikeon Mathis scored 13 points, and Shaphane Stowe chipped in with 12.

For the Falcons, Doryan Hall was the only player to reach double figure with 15 points. Cameron Pratt added nine points for Fort Campbell.

Christian County improves to 13-13 overall, and 2-3 in the 8th District. Fort Campbell falls to 5-17 and 0-4 in the district.
