Nicholas Deadly From Deep in Hoptown Win at Union County

2-8-nicholas

James Nicholas knocked down six 3-pointers and finished with 26 points in Hopkinsville’s 75-62 win at Union County Friday in a last-minute addition to the schedule.

With Lyon County canceling classes Friday due to sickness, it also wiped out their planned doubleheader with Union County in Eddyville. The Braves were able to add Hopkinsville late Thursday. It was their first meeting since the 2014 region tournament and first regular season meeting since an 83-34 Hoptown win in 2012.

Jacarius Burks added 17 points, and Don Victor and Reece Jesse both scored 11 points as the Tigers turned a 31-31 halftime deadlock into an eight-point lead entering the fourth quarter.

Kale Gaither led Union County (13-8) with 24 points, and Elex Dunford added 13 points.

Hopkinsville (15-9) will shoot for their fourth four-game winning streak of the season Saturday when they head across town to play district rival University Heights.
