Hopkinsville Wins First Girls’ Region Swim Title in 14 years

After missing a region title by less than three points last year, the Hopkinsville Lady Tiger swim team made it a mission to bring the region title home to Hopkinsville for the first time since 2005.

Anchored by a pair of first place relay finishes and seven top-three individual finishes, Hopkinsville scored 366.5 points to outdistance second place McCracken County (326) and third place Madisonville (255).

Top 15 finishers for the Lady Tigers were:

Ellie Colburn, second in the 100-yard free; third in the 50-yard free
Ella Falco, second in the 200-yard free, second in the 100-yard fly
Lauren Langhi, second in the 200-yard IM, second in the 100-yard breaststroke
Madyson Merrick, third in the 100-yard backstroke, fourth in the 100-yard free
Anna Hernandez, fifth in the 200-yard free, seventh in the 500-yard free
Lauren Montgomery, fifth in the 100-yard free, sixth in the 200-yard IM
Riley Robinson, fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke, seventh in the 200-yard IM
Megan Grace, sixth in the 200-yard free, eighth in the 100-yard backstroke
Madyson Hallmark, ninth in the 500-yard free
Ashley Howard, ninth in the 200-yard free, 13th in the 100-yard free
Whitney Coker, 15th in the 50-yard free

In addition, Hopkinsville Coach Keith Marquess was named the Girls’ Region Coach of the Year based on voting conducted by the coaches.

Hopkinsville now turns their attention to the Pannell Swim Shop/KHSAA State Swimming and Diving Championships Feb. 23 at the Ralph Wright Natatorium on the University of Louisville campus.
