Those who were throwing dirt on the grave of Hopkinsville’s girls’ basketball season may have been doing so prematurely.

Jayla Rose had a monster night to lead four Lady Tigers in double figures in a 74-59 win over Henderson County Tuesday at Tiger Gym. It was Henderson’s first region loss to someone other than Webster County this year and snapped a five-game winning streak over Hoptown dating back to 2016.

Rose scored 19 of her season-high 31 points in the first half as the Lady Tigers led 20-13 after one quarter and 36-23 at halftime. Hoptown kept the second half lead in double-digits thanks to 19-of-27 shooting at the charity stripe.

Breon Oldham had 16 points and hit 8-of-12 at the free throw line, including 5-of-6 in the fourth quarter. Donisha Flowers scored 13 points, and Yogi McKnight added 10 for Hoptown, who entered the game having lost six of their previous nine games.

Alyssa Dixon led Henderson County (13-7) with 18 points, and Kaytlan Kemp and Emilee Hope each scored 10 points. The Lady Colonels, who are the second-best 3-point shooting team in the region at 37-percent, hit just three 3-pointers in the contest.

Hopkinsville (16-13) closes out the regular season Thursday at South Warren.
