Lady Wildcats Reach First District Title Game in a Decade

Earlier this year, Trigg County recognized their 2009 5th District girls’ title team at a Lady Wildcat home game. That team was also the last Trigg team to win a game in the tournament. Until Tuesday.

Crittenden County scored the first bucket of the game and never led again as Trigg County picked up a 46-37 win over the Lady Rockets in the district semifinals at Livingston Central High School. Trigg County moves into Friday’s championship game against Lyon County, a 39-29 winner over Livingston Central.

Trigg County was able to steadily pull away from the Lady Rockets, who hit just 3-of-20 shots in the first half. The Lady Wildcats led 11-8 after one quarter and 17-11 at halftime. Crittenden didn’t hit a field goal over the final 7:47 of the second quarter.

Trigg turned up the defensive pressure in the third quarter as they scored nine points off seven Crittenden turnovers in the frame to build a 30-17 lead.

Crittenden County got as close as 41-35 with 3:21 left, but Trigg hit three free throws and made a put back in the final 90 seconds to seal the win.

Freshman Marleigh Reynolds continued her strong play of late with 11 points and eight rebounds. Emily Noffsinger added 10 points, three steals, and three assists. Rylee Bush had seven points and six rebounds, and Adri Phillips had six points and seven boards.

Eighth grader Taylor Guess led Crittenden County (14-14) with 18 points. Nahla Woodward added nine points and 12 rebounds.

It’s the first time Trigg County, who swept the regular season matchups with the Lady Rockets, have beaten Crittenden County three times in a season since 1996.

Trigg County (15-15) will meet Lyon County Friday at 6:30 for the district title. The only other time the schools have met for the championship was 1989 when Lyon County won 41-29 in Eddyville.
