The University Heights Academy boys’ basketball team held Fort Campbell to 5 second-half points on the way to a 78-32 victory in Tuesday night’s 8th-District semifinal at Lyle Dunbar Gym.  After a close first quarter, the Blazers erupted for 35 second-quarter points to blow the game open.

The Blazers will be looking for their second-straight 8th-District title on Thursday, after beating Christian County 83-76 in the championship game last season.

The Falcons used 4 early points each from Cameron Johnson and Isaiah Blyden to take an 8-2 lead and force a UHA timeout.  However, the advantage would be short-lived, as Drew McGowan knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers to tie the game at 8.  Kyky Tandy got going with 4-straight to give the Blazers an 8-point edge, and they led 21-16 after the first quarter.

UHA used a 16-0 run to start the second quarter to take a commanding 37-16 advantage.  Tandy and McGowan combined for 29 of the Blazers 35 points to outscore the Falcons by 24 and take a 29-point lead into halftime.

The Falcons were held scoreless in the third, with the Blazers adding 15 points to the margin.  With its starters enjoying the proceedings from the bench, UHA eased through the final 8 minutes for the 78-32 victory.

Tandy and McGowan did almost all of their damage in the first half, finishing with 26 and 24 points, respectively.

Johnson was the lone Falcon in double figures with 11, while Cameron Pratt added 5.
