Threes a Charm for Lyon County in Winning 5th District Title

2-21-perry

Lyon County has lived by the 3-pointer and died by the 3-pointer all season long. In the Fifth District championship game against Crittenden County Thursday, the Lyons lived life to the fullest by hitting 11 of them in a 54-40 win over the Rockets.

The win by the Lyons avenged a one point lost to Crittenden County in last year‘s championship game in Marion. The Lyons broke open a close game early when Travis Perry and Kade Blackburn hit consecutive three pointers to give them a 10-3 lead out of the gate.  Perry followed with another 3-pointer to put the Lyons ahead 21-12 after the first quarter.

Crittenden County used their inside game of Preston Turley and a 3-pointer by Hunter Boone to pull to within 24-17.

Lyon County finished the half strong as Perry hit two more threes, and Blackburn and Gabe Board followed to give the Lyons a 34-24 lead at intermission.

Crittenden County scored the first five points of the second half but Lyon County answered with three straight 3-pointers by Board to build a 45-31 lead, and Crittenden never got any closer in the contest.

Lyon County hit 7-of-15 three-pointers in the first half and 11-of-25 for the game.  The Lyons shot 43-percent from the field and outrebounded Crittenden 28-24.

Crittenden managed to hit just 5-of-24 from behind the arc and shot 35-percent for the game.

Perry lead Lyon County with 25 points, including 5-of-10 from behind the arc. Board added 16 points, six rebounds, and five assists.

Turley lead Crittenden County with 17 points and 13 rebounds. He was the only Rocket to score in double figures as Hunter Boone scored nine points.

The district title by Lyon County avenges last year’s one-point lost to the Rockets in the district title game. The championship is the school’s 19th overall and moves them into sole possession of second-place for most 5th District titles.  They had been tied with Livingston Central. Trigg County owns the most district titles with 21.

Both Lyon County and Crittenden County will advance to next week’s Second Region Basketball Tournament in Madisonville that gets underway Monday. Teams will learn their opponents at Saturday morning’s draw.
