UHA’s Rachel Snyder pitched six strong innings in her first varsity start to help the Lady Blazers to a 12-2 opening-night victory at Fort Campbell.  The Lady Blazers match last season’s win total, with their last victory also coming at the expense of the Lady Falcons.  Both teams will face the Christian County Lady Colonels in the next outing, with Fort Campbell welcoming them to post on Tuesday, and UHA hosting them on Wednesday.

In the top of the third, UHA’s Mia Litchfield singled to drive in Regan Pollard for a 4-0 lead.  After Fort Campbell pitcher Hannah Carbaugh hit two batters in the top of the fifth, Brianna Daniel and Jessah Hayden each had RBI singles and the Lady Blazers erupted for 5 runs to blow the game open at 9-0.

The Lady Falcons responded with 2 unearned runs in their half of the fifth, but UHA used a Riley Johnson single and an RBI triple by Pollard to open up a 10-run advantage.

Snyder went the distance for the win, striking out 14 and walking 8.  Johnson and Hayden each had 2 hits and an RBI, Daniel and Mallory Ladd both had a hit and knocked in a run, and Litchfield had a hit and 2 RBI.

Carbaugh took the loss, pitching all 6 innings and surrendering 12 runs with 9 strikeouts and 7 walks.
