Colonels’ Diuguid Does It Good in Shutout Win Over UHA

Apparently a preseason injury to his glove hand has not affected the pitching ability of Christian County’s Lane Diuguid. The senior hurler was spectacular in his first outing of the 2019 season Tuesday evening, limiting Univesity Heights to just two hits as the Colonels picked up a big 3-0 8th District win at Colonel Field.

Diuguid struck out ten and walked none over seven innings, and had to throw only 83 pitches in the game. The only hits for the Blazers were a single from Dustin Moon in the top of the 3rd and a single from Dan Johnson in the top of the 7th.

Christian County scored a run in the bottom of the 1st on a triple from A. Fields and an RBI single from Eric Silvy.

The Colonels added a run in the bottom of the 4th when Eric Silvy led off the inning with a single and then later scored on a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.

Christian County would add an insurance run in the bottom of the 6th inning when Silvy tripled and then scored on another sacrifice fly to give the Colonels a 3-0 lead.

Eric Silvy led the way for Christian County, going 3-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Jase Polley was 1-3 with an RBI. Austin Fields ended up 1-3 with a run scored.

Lane Diuguid went 7 innings, giving up no runs, on two hits, striking out 10 and walking none.

Dan Johnson took the loss for UHA, going six innings, giving up three runs on seven hits, while walking just one.

Christian County improves to 1-1 on the season, and 1-0 in the district.

UHA falls to 1-2 overall, and 1-2 in 8th District play.
