Lady Rebels Complete Comeback Over Bowling Green for First Win

After falling behind visiting Bowling Green 4-0 in the second inning Thursday night in Elkton, the Todd County Central softball team got a 2-run home run from Emma Harris in the fourth on the way to a 6-4 victory.  The Lady Rebels pick up their first win of the season after dropping their first two outings, while Bowling Green slips to 0-3.

Bowling Green’s Gia Martin led off the game with a home run to center field, before driving in a run in the second and scoring on a Lady Rebel error for an early 4-0 lead.

Jordan Weathers got the Lady Rebels going with an RBI single, followed by a run-scoring single from Whitney Higgins, and Todd County tied the game at 4-4 after two.

Maddie Williams pitched the first two innings for the Lady Rebels, before being relieved by Abigail McPhearson, who would dominate the Lady Purples over the next five frames, yielding only a single hit while walking 5 and striking out 2.

In the bottom of the fourth, Todd County’s Emma Harris stepped up with 2 out and a runner on first, fouling off five straight pitches with a 2-2 count, before homering to left field for the winning runs.

Harris finished 2-3 with 3 RBI to lead the Lady Rebels at the plate, followed by Higgins and Rachel Bilyeu with a couple of hits each.

Payton Briley took the loss for the Lady Purples, working 6.0 innings while surrendering 6 runs, 5 earned, on 11 hits, with 3 walks and 2 strikeouts.
