Lady Wildcats Nab 4-0 Shutout Win Over Lady Lyons

Seven different players had hits, and Hannah Colbert pitched a 3-hit shutout to lead Trigg County to a 4-0 shutout win over Lyon County Thursday in Eddyville.

After winning against Lyon County just once in their first 52 fast pitch meetings, the Lady Wildcats have now won three straight games against their district rival.

Colbert pitched a three-hitter and struck out nine Lady Lyons while walking just two. In her first two games, the John A. Logan signee has struck out 22 batters.

Trigg County struck first in the second inning when Rylee Hendricks doubled to left, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a steal of home.

They added two runs in the fifth inning when Kara Southwood and Alyssa Southwood led off with singles and were doubled home by Ashlyn Keller. Kara Southwood added a sacrifice fly for a sixth inning insurance run.

If there was a downside to the play of the Lady Wildcats it was their baserunning. They ran into three double plays and stranded two runners at third base.

Lyon County managed just three hits – singles by Sydney Melton, Calista Collins, and Tori Schenk.

Kaelyn Conger labored through five-plus innings but struck out seven batters to keep the Lady Lyons in the contest.

Trigg County improves to 2-0, while Lyon County falls to 1-2. Both teams will be playing Friday and Saturday in the Franklin-Simpson Lady Cat Classic in Bowling Green. Both teams will face Franklin-Simpson and South Warren in alternating games Friday.
