Maroons Strike Early in 9-3 7th District Win at Caldwell County

Madisonville-North Hopkins built a 6-0 lead through two innings and went on to claim a 9-3 7th District victory on Tuesday at Caldwell County.
The Maroons (3-3 overall, 1-0 district) led 8-0 before Caldwell (3-2, 0-1) got on the scoreboard with a run in the bottom of the fourth.
But the Tigers could get no closer than 8-3.
Jon Hogart went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double, triple and home run while driving in three runs. Parker Mathis was 2-for-4 with two runs batted in while Jonathan Wagoner was 2-for-4 and knocked in one.
For Caldwell, Tate VanHooser went 2-for-3 with a home run. Gabe East was 2-for-3 with a double while John Davis and Levin East each went 2-for-3 as well.
Jacob Joseph went the distance on the mound to earn the win for Madisonville. He allowed three earned runs on 10 hits while striking out seven and walking two.
Madisonville’s two runs in the first inning came on Hogart’s homer to left.
Mathis had a two-run single as the Maroons scored four more times in the second inning.
Hogart doubled home a run and scored in the top of the fourth to extend the margin to 8-0.
VanHooser homered to left leading off the bottom of the fourth for Caldwell.
The Tigers scored twice in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run single by Brian Owen.
The Maroons tacked on an insurance run in the top of the seventh.
The two teams will hook up again on Thursday in Madisonville.
