Tigers Stay Unblemished With 14-5 Win at Daviess County

The Hopkinsville baseball team continued to post big offensive numbers and remained undefeated at 4-0 with a 14-5 road victory over Daviess County on Tuesday night.  The Tigers have scored double-digit runs in three of their four wins this season, and are off to their best start since a 5-0 beginning in 2016.

The Tigers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first with back-to-back-to-back RBI singles by John Duvall, Blake Sowell, and Aaron Crosby.  But after a run in the bottom of the first, Daviess County stormed back with 4 in the bottom of the second to pull in front 5-3.

Preston Chaudoin singled to score Duvall and load the bases for the Tigers in the top of the third, before the they took the lead for good with 3 more runs in the frame.

Sowell and Landon Snyder had RBI singles in the fourth, and the Tigers led 10-5 into the sixth.  With two outs, Ryan Myers singled to score 2, and Layne Jorgensen and Duvall drew back-to-back, bases-loaded walks for the final runs of the game.

Tim Cansler started on the mound for the Tigers, getting only two outs and yielding a run on a hit with 3 walks.  Robert Justus gave up 3 runs on 3 hits with 2 strikeouts in one inning of work, while Zach Caudill held the Panthers scoreless over 2.1 frames with a couple of strikeouts.

Logan Durst turned in 2 shutout innings while striking out 4, and Chaudoin pitched the seventh, walking 1 and striking out 3.

Ryan Beckwith took the loss for Daviess County, lasting 3.0 innings while surrendering 7 runs, 6 earned, on 7 hits with a couple of walks and 4 strikeouts.

Myers and Sowell each drove in 3 for the Tigers, with Duvall knocking in 2, and Jorgensen, Crosby, Snyder and Chaudoin with an RBI each.
