Butts Goes the Distance in Wildcats’ Win at McLean County

3-28-butts

Trigg County junior Arlon Butts turned in seven strong innings on the mound on Thursday night at McLean County, helping the Wildcats to a 3-1 victory over the Cougars.  The Wildcats win their second-straight to move to 3-3 overall, with McLean County also standing at 3-3.

Trigg jumped ahead in the top of the second when Wyatt Wagoner hit into a fielder’s choice to allow CJ Ahart to score.

Butts was in control, striking out 6 and scattering 4 hits through the first four frames, but the Cougars got to him in the fifth after AJ Cline doubled to lead off the inning and came home on a passed ball to tie the game.

Three of the first four Trigg batters drew walks to start the top of the seventh, before Hayden Cunningham reached on an error to allow Andrew Syester to score and break the deadlock.  With two outs, Butts drew a bases-loaded walk to double the Wildcats’ lead at 3-1.

Peyton Caraway singled off Butts with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, and the next Cougar batter walked, but Butts struck-out McLean’s Jacob Miller to seal the win.

Butts earned the complete-game win yielding a single unearned run on 7 hits, with 3 walks and 10 strikeouts.  Cunningham was the only Wildcat with 2 hits, followed by Syester, Trevor Cortner, Jacob Kent and Jude Hunter with a hit each.
