Good teams take advantage of the mistakes other teams give them, and Christian County is no different. The Lady Colonels exploited five Trigg County errors to score eight unearned runs and beat the Lady Wildcats 10-0 in six innings at Colonel Field.

Christian County got timely hitting and a strong performance from Hannah Sumner in the circle to get their eight straight win to start the 2019 season. Sumner struck out 10 and walked just two in pitching the five-hit shutout.

The Lady Colonels struck in the first inning when Tyler Shemwell doubled with two outs and scored on a single by Hope Jones.

Christian County again worked some two-out magic in the third when Jones and Reni Shemwell reached on errors and scored on a sharp single to center by Taylor Shemwell.

Emmy Blane’s double off the left field fence in the fourth inning scored Macy Lancaster, who singled for a 4-0 lead.

The Lady Colonels tacked on five runs in the fifth. Reni Shemwell doubled, and it looked like the inning would end when a pair of outs followed. Tenley Gilbert had an RBI single, Pickle Winkler followed with a two-run single, and Blane added her second RBI double of the game.

Winkler, Blane, and Taylor Shemwell each drove in two runs, with Blane, Jones, and Reni Shemwell tallying two hits.

Hannah Colbert took the pitching loss but only allowed two earned runs. She gave up nine hits and struck out six.

The Lady Wildcat offense consisted of five singles from five different players. Trigg County drops to 4-5 on the season, but three of their losses have come to teams ranked in the top 15 in the state. Christian County entered the game at No. 3.

With Trigg County’s Lady Wildcat Invitational for Saturday canceled due to weather, they will head to Pigeon Forge, Tenn. and play in the Cal Ripken Experience next week.

Christian County (8-0) will travel to Central Hardin Saturday where they will play No. 1 Male at 1pm and No. 11 Central Hardin at 3pm.
