Errors Costly as Lady Colonels Suffer First Loss of Season

Butler rallied from a 4-1 deficit Monday afternoon to hand the Christian County Lady Colonels their first loss of the season. The Bearettes scored three runs in the bottom of the 6th and then scored the game winning run on a Christian County error with two outs in the bottom of the 7th inning to take the 5-4 win.

Errors were a problem for the Lady Colonels in the contest as they committed three over the seven innings.

Christian County took the early 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning after Emmy Blane walked, stole both second and third, and then scored on a sacrifice fly from Tyler Shemwell.

Butler evened the score up at 1-1 on a fielder’s choice in the bottom of the first. The score was set up by an error that would have made the fielder’s choice the third out of the inning, and would have left the scored 1-0.

Christian County used the long ball to take the lead back in the top of the 3rd inning. Tyler Shemwell blasted a three run homer to left field scoring Pickle Winkler and Emmy Blane to put the Lady Colonels up 4-1.

After struggling against Christian County starter Hannah Sumner, the Bearettes found their stride when the Lady Colonels changed pitchers to start the 6th inning. Butler got a one out single, followed by a walk and a hit batter with two outs to load the bases. Butler then used a single and a Lady Colonel error to score three runs and even the game at 4-4 headed into the 7th.

Butler opened the bottom of the 7th with a double, Riley Hancock then struck out the next batter. Butler nearly won the game with one out, but Macy Lancaster threw out the runner trying to score at the plate for the second out of the inning. However, a Lady Colonel error allowed the winning run to score with two outs, and Butler to get away with the win.

Tyler Shemwell had a big day at the plate for the Lady Colonels, going 1-2, with a home run, four RBI’s, and a run scored. Macy Lancaster went 2-3. Emmy Blane was 0-1, but walked twice and scored two runs.

In the circle, Hannah Sumner went five innings, giving up one run, none earned, on two hits, striking out one and walking none. Riley Hancock went 1 2/3, giving up four runs, only two earned, on four hits, striking out one and walking one.
