Lady Wildcats Split Softball Games in Pigeon Forge

Trigg County split their second day games at the Cal Ripken Experience in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. pushing their record to 1-3 at the event.

The Lady Wildcats scored early and often in handing Montgomery County a 15-0 mercy rule loss in the opener. Trigg County rapped out 10 hits in the contest and had three extra base hits. Kara Southwood got the scoring going by ripping a two-run inside the park home run to right field. The expansive field aided Trigg’s offense all day.

Three batters later, Rylee Hendricks added another two-run inside the park home run to right field to give the Lady Wildcats a 5-0 lead.

Kara Southwood added an RBI single in the second inning and scored on a single by her sister Alyssa. Hannah Colbert tripled home the younger Southwood for an 8-0 Trigg lead.

Trigg County added seven more runs in the third inning, highlighted by an RBI single by Julia Rhone and a two-run single by Raelyn Marlowe.

Logan Darnall and the Southwood sisters each had two hits with Kara Southwood driving in four runs to push her team lead to 10. Hendricks added three RBIs.

Colbert needed just 37 pitches to face the 9-batter minimum. She allowed no hits and struck out four.

In the second game, Trigg County couldn’t get the bats going early in a 13-1 loss to No. 21 Madison Southern. Trigg helped the Madison Southern cause with six errors and five walks.

The Lady Eagles (9-3) scored in every frame, highlighted by a six-run second inning.

Trigg County managed just two hits in the game but were the victim of several hard-hit balls right at the Madison Central outfielders.

The Lady Wildcats pushed across their only run in the fifth inning when Phelan Dossett tripled and scored on a groundout.

Kara Southwood took the pitching loss with four earned runs allowed in two innings. Kara Hyde pitched the final three innings, allowing just three earned runs.

Trigg County falls to 5-8 on the season, with four their losses coming to teams ranked in the top 25. Two other teams – Franklin-Simpson and East Jessamine – received votes in the latest poll, as did Trigg County.

The Lady Wildcats get to enjoy an off day in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg Wednesday and close out play against Whitley County Thursday morning.
