Sindelar, Boilermakers Get Good News Following Injury Scare

There is good news for the Purdue Boilermakers and quarterback Elijah Sindelar.
The former Caldwell County Tiger is still out for spring drills, but his left knee is apparently OK after head coach Jeff Brohm said earlier in the week that Sindelar “tweaked” the knee in practice.
“It was last Tuesday in practice,” Sindelar told Tom Dienhart of GoldandBlack.com. “We were in a third-down period and I was stepping up in the pocket, went to roll out and (left offensive tackle) Grant Hermanns actually stepped on my foot when I was trying to plant and move and it ended up hyperextending.
“It swelled on us and we kinda freaked out, but the MRI was perfect. Nothing was wrong with it all. We ended up figuring out it was only about a week of recovery. I feel great right now. I just ran, did everything. No problems whatsover. I think I could probably play. But our coaches feel like … they are not gonna let me play. There is nothing I can do about that. Which is OK.”
Sindelar has been bitten by the injury bug throughout his football career. He was injured in his final game at Caldwell County — a playoff loss to Murray in the regional championship game in 2014.
At Purdue, Sindelar hurt his left knee in 2017 against Northwestern. He played the final three games with an ACL injury— including Purdue’s bowl victory — before having surgery. Sindelar started for the Boilermakers to open the 2018 season, but experienced tendinitis in the knee, which forced him to miss the final 11 games.
Sindelar will not play in Saturday’s annual spring game at Purdue, but expects to be ready to go when fall practice gets under way.
