Tate VanHooser homered twice and had a double as Caldwell County ended a three-game losing skid with a 10-7 victory over Barren County on Thursday in the Warren County Invitational.
VanHooser had a two-run shot to left as the Tigers (4-5) scored five times in the top of the sixth inning to break a 5-5 tie.
Caldwell never trailed in the contest, but saw Barren tie the game three times after falling behind 2-0, 4-2 and 5-4.
The Tigers, who surrendered a 5-1 lead in the seventh inning in a 6-5 loss to Warren East earlier in the day, had to sweat out the last inning again against Barren.
The Trojans put their first two men on base in the bottom of the seventh and chased home two runs to get within 10-7. Barren (2-7) got the potential tying run to the plate before a grounder to second ended the game.
Trace Lacy, the last of three Tiger pitchers, picked up the win on the mound. Lacy went the last 2.1 innings, allowing one earned run on four hits. He struck out two and walked two. Deontaye Walls started for the Tigers before giving way to Gabe Dyer in the second inning.
VanHooser was 3-for-3 at the plate with three runs batted in and four runs scored. Gabe East went 2-for-3 and drove home two while Cody Holub was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
Caldwell will play two more games in Bowling Green on Friday, facing Greenwood and Anderson County.
