4-5-county

Despite two straight losses, Christian County remains atop the YSE Baseball Super 7 due to their unbeaten record against region competition.  Here is where the rest of the Second Region teams fall in this week’s Super 7

1) Christian County (5-4) – The Colonels lost their opener of the Rebel Classic in Winchester, Tenn. Thursday which followed a 6-2 loss to Logan County Tuesday. Despite the 5-4 record, the Colonels are 4-0 against Second Region competition. The Colonels have games scheduled Friday and Saturday in Tennessee before returning home Tuesday to play defending Third Region champion Muhlenberg County.

2) Union County (6-2) – Like Christian County, the Braves are unbeaten against region competition. They dropped a 5-4 decision to Ohio County, a dark horse team in the Third Region. The Braves will see some solid competition in the Warren County Invitational before playing their district opener Tuesday at Henderson County.

3) Hopkinsville (6-3) – The Tigers wrap up play in Florida Friday after winning two of their first three games on the Emerald Coast. Hoptown can solidify their spot in the Super 7 with five games against region competition in the next 11 days.

4) University Heights (4-5) – The Blazers split their four games in Orlando, with three of the games against out of state competition. They open play in the Second Region All-A Classic Monday against Livingston Central and have a Tuesday showdown with Madisonville.

5) Madisonville (6-5) – The Maroons have won two of their first three games in Myrtle Beach with a Friday contest remaining against Knott County Central. They swept Caldwell County in a pair of district games to run their district record to 4-2. They will get a chance to move up the rankings in the coming week with games against University Heights, Hopkinsville, and Union County.

6) Henderson County (5-7) – The Colonels have found the wins hard to come by in the past week, although one of them was an 11-2 thumping of Caldwell County. Henderson dropped an odd contest to Logan County on April Fool’s Day – a game that saw them trail by 10, tie the game, and then lose by 10. Henderson has two games with Union County coming up in the next week.

7) Lyon County (4-4) – After winning their first four games, the Lyons have dropped four straight. One of those was a 10-5 setback against state-ranked McCracken County. Lyon County is in Kingsport, Tennessee this weekend and will play Crittenden County twice next week – one of those in the Second Region All-A Classic – and will host Caldwell County.
