Nelli Walker’s Game Winner Carries Lady Lyons to 6-5 Win in Alabama

Nelli Walker’s RBI single in the top of the 6th inning turned out to be the difference as the Lyon County Lady Lyons edged Moore County 6-5 in six innings in the Bob Jones Tournament. The game winning hit came after Moore County had rallied with three runs to tie the game in the bottom of the 5th inning.

Coming off their big win against Christian County, Lyon County got on the board in the top of the first inning when Calista Collins doubled and then later scored from third when Moore County attempted to throw out Kaelyn Conger stealing second.

Moore County responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. The runs scored on a single, a double, and another double back-to-back-to-back.

The Lady Lyons got back to the lead in the top of the 3rd inning when Conger hit a two run homer to left field to make it a 3-2 ballgame.

Lyon County pushed the lead on out to 5-2 in the top of the 4th inning when Sydney Melton connected on a two run double.

Moore County used three singles, a Lyon County error, and a walk to rally and tie the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the 5th inning.

In the 6th, due to time limit and tournament rules, Lauren Davis was placed on second to start the inning. Walker then hit her single to put Lyon County up 6-5. In the bottom half of the inning, Lyon County set Moore County down in order to secure the win.

Sydney Melton went 2-3 for the Lady Lyons, with a double, and two RBIs. Kaelyn Conger was 2-2, with a double, two RBIs, and a run scored. Calista Collins was 1-3, with a double, and a run scored.

In the circle, Conger went four innings, giving up five runs, three of them earned, on seven hits, striking out 4 and walking one. Allye Culp went two innings in relief, giving up no runs, on one hit, striking out three and walking one.
