Hoptown’s Caudill Clips Falcon Wings in 8th District Game

The Hopkinsville Tigers used a big 2nd inning to springboard to an 8th District win over Fort Campbell Monday evening at Tiger Field. Hoptown converted four walks and a Falcon error into six runs in the bottom of the 2nd on their way to a 12-0 win.

The big shot in the inning was a bases loaded double from Ryan Myers that drove in three runs. Caleb Bapp added an RBI single. Landon Snyder drove in the first run of the inning with a sacrifice bunt that scored John Duvall.

The Tigers then chased Falcon starter Ryan Sawyer in the bottom of the 4th inning when Sawyer walked the first three batters to load the bases.

A hit batter scored one run. Robert Justus connected for an RBI single. John Duvall scored on a wild pitch as he was attempting to steal home. Logan Durst then brought the mercy rule into play, driving in two runs with a single to center field. The Tigers would add one final run on a dropped fly ball by Fort Campbell to make it 12-0.

Meanwhile, Zach Caudill was sharp on the mound for Hoptown. Caudill limited the Falcons to one hit while striking out 8 in four innings on the mound. Aaron Crosby entered the game in the top of the 5th to close out the game.

At the plate, Ryan Myers was 1-4, with a double, 3 RBIs, and a run scored. Layne Jorgensen went 2-2, with a double, a walk, and a run scored. Robert Justus was 1-2, with a walk, an RBI, and a run scored.

Greyson Meyer was 1-2, and had the only hit in the game for the Falcons.

Ryan Sawyer took the loss for Fort Campbell. He worked three innings, giving up nine runs, eight of them earned, on five hits, striking out three and walking eight.
