Lady Lyons Homer 3 Times in 8-1 Triumph Over Hopkins Central

Lyon County kept up its heavy hitting, slamming three home runs in an 8-1 victory over Hopkins County Central in softball action Monday in Eddyville. Sydney Melton cleared the fence twice while Nelli Walker hit her first home run as the Lady Lyons (12-7) won for the ninth time in 10 games.

Meanwhile, Allye Culp gave up just one run on six base hits in the circle in a complete-game effort. She struck out 13 and walked none.
Walker doubled and scored on an error to put Lyon up 1-0 in the second inning. Melton homered to center with one out in the third to make it 2-0. Walker lined a shot off the scoreboard in left-center in the fourth to put Lyon up 3-0.

Hopkins Central (6-10) broke up the shutout in the top of the fifth when Brenna Sherman doubled home a run with two outs. But Lyon put together a two-out rally in the bottom of the frame to score four times. Calista Collins singled home one run while a pair of Hopkins Central errors helped the Lady Lyons build a 7-1 advantage.

Melton got her second homer in the bottom of the sixth, driving a 1-1 pitch over the fence in center with two outs to make it 8-1.

Melton finished the day 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs and three runs scored. Walker was 2-for-3 with and RBI and two runs scored.
Sherman and Baylen Young each went 2-for-3 to lead Hopkins Central.
