Lyons Run Win Streak to Eight with 10-7 Victory at Trigg County

One big inning was enough to send Lyon County to their eighth straight win, a 10-7 district victory over Trigg County Tuesday in Cadiz.

After Jacob Kent’s home run to centerfield gave Trigg a 5-3 lead in the third inning, Lyon County responded with a six-run fourth inning for a 9-5 lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

Brady Darnall singled and later stole home. Gabe Board added an RBI single to tie the game at 5-5. A Travis Yancy double scored Board for a 6-5 Lyon lead. After 8 walked, Jake Kleuppel homered over the left field fence to complete the six-run inning.

A bases loaded walk and an error plated two runs for Trigg County in the fourth to cut the Lyon lead to 9-7.

Lyon added an insurance run in the fifth on a stolen base a Wildcat error. Lyon stole eight bases in the contest, three of those by Darnall.

Gabe Board, who celebrated his 18th birthday with two hits and an RBI, nailed down the save with three innings of two-hit baseball. He struck out six and didn’t issue a walk.  Gunnar Bingham got the win.

Yancy, Darnall, Brody Williams, and 16 each had two hits part of the 12-hit Lyon effort. Trigg actually outhit Lyon by one. Arlon Butts had three hits, and Kent, Trevor Cortner, Anthony Mercado each had two hits. Kent had three RBIs for the Wildcats.

Trigg County (9-7, 2-2) will travel to Calloway County Thursday and host Dawson Springs Friday.

Lyon County (12-5, 3-0) has won eight straight games and will play at Murray Wednesday in the All-A Classic sectional. The winner advances to the All-A Classic state tournament in Owensboro at the end of the month.
