For a big portion of the game Saturday between the Christian County Lady Colonels and the Central Hardin Lady Bruins, it appeared the home run by Central’s Emily Bryant to lead off the game in the top of the first inning might be the only run scored. However, Emmy Blane’s three run shot in the bottom of the 5th inning sparked a four run rally for the Lady Colonels, and then they held on over the final two innings to pick up a 4-3 win in a matchup between two of the state’s top teams.

After the game opening home run, Lady Colonels’ pitcher Hannah Sumner settled in and held Central Hardin to just three singles for the first five innings, with two of those being wiped out by double plays.

Meanwhile, Christian County had trouble getting anything going against Lady Bruins’ hurler Kaci Goeddle, who limited the Lady Colonels to three hits through the first four innings.

In the bottom of the 5th, Macy Lancaster and Pickle Winkler came up with one out singles, setting the stage for Blane’s shot which easily cleared the centerfield fence. Christian County added a huge run, which turned out to be the difference in the game, when Reni Shemwell singled to score Hope Jones, who had reached base on a double.

Central Hardin was able to trim the lead to 4-2 in the top of the sixth, converting a single and a walk into a run. The Lady Bruins got a lead off home run from Eleecia Hager to lead off the top of the 7th, but Hannah Sumner was then able to set down the next three batters in order to end the game.

The loss ended a 13 game winning streak for Central Hardin.

Macy Lancaster went 2-2 for Christian County, with a run scored. Reni Shemwell was 2-2, with an RBI. Emmy Blane was 1-3, with a home run, and 3 RBIs. Hope Jones was 1-3, with a double, and a run scored.

Hannah Sumner went the distance for Christian County, giving up 3 runs, on six hits, striking out three, while walking two.
