Caldwell County’s girls just can’t quite get over the hump that is 16th-ranked Madisonville-North Hopkins. The Lady Tigers outhit the Lady Maroons 7-6 on Monday, but Caldwell fell 3-1 in Madisonville. Caldwell has now dropped 27 games in a row to its 7th District rival. Madisonville won 7-6 earlier this season in Princeton.

On Monday, Katie Franklin surrendered just two earned runs on six hits while striking out nine and walking only two.
However, Madisonville’s Courtney Patterson gave up just one run in the circle while striking out four and walking none.

The Lady Maroons (8-7 overall, 4-0 district) got an unearned run in the bottom of the second inning to go up 1-0.

Half of Madisonville’s six hits came in the fourth when Courtney Peyton singled leading off and scored on a double by Amber Osborne. Osborne came in on a two-out single by Gracie Arnold to make it 3-0.

Caldwell’s best inning came in the top of the seventh. Allie Felker doubled to start the inning. Haley Stiles then reached on an infield single to put runners at the corners. Felker scored when Madi Choate grounded out to get the Lady Tigers (7-10, 2-2) on the scoreboard.

Karlie Rennison then singled to again put runners on the corners. But a ground ball to third resulted in an out at the plate. A strikeout then ended the contest.

Felker went 2-for-3 to lead Caldwell at the plate.

Jayda Perkins was 2-for-3 for Madisonville.
