A Lyon County teacher and coach is under investigation for sexual exploitation offenses following his arrest over the weekend. Michael Derek McCuiston, 33, was arrested early Sunday by Kentucky State Police and charged with felony count of Tampering with Physical Evidence.

Lyon County Sheriff Brent White said he was contacted Saturday morning regarding a criminal complaint involving a Lyon County Middle School employee. With the assistance of Lyon County School Superintendent Russ Tilford and Kentucky State Police, investigators began to corroborate some the information initially received.

Sheriff White said evidence was seized following the arrest and has been forwarded to the Kentucky State Police Electronic Crime Branch in Frankfort. Once that evidence is analyzed, he said additional charges could be filed.

McCuiston was the boys’ soccer coach and track and field coach at Lyon County. He was 30-49-1 in four seasons as soccer coach, including a district title in 2017.

Lyon County Principal Thomas Radivonyk said McCuiston resigned his coaching and teaching positions Sunday morning. Radivonyk said he and Athletic Director Jeff Doom will oversee the track and field teams for the remainder of the spring season with Zach Thomas to oversee practices. Radivonyk said they met with the track team Monday morning to explain the circumstances and answer any questions.

He said the track team will run as scheduled in the McCracken County quad meet Tuesday.

Radivonyk said the boys’ soccer position will be posted by the school.
