The Christian County Lady Colonels have been a team this season that has done a great deal of damage with the long ball. With a very stout wind blowing direct in from centerfield Thursday afternoon, it was obvious early that home runs would not be a part of the agenda for Christian County in their game against the Muhlenberg County Lady Mustangs.

Instead, the Lady Colonels combined another solid pitching performance from Hannah Sumner with a 12 hit attack on offense to cruise to an 11-1 six inning win over the Lady Mustangs. One third of the hits came off the bat of Hope Jones, who had a monster game for Christian County, going 3-4, with five RBI’s.

Christian County scored five runs in the first, two in the second, and three in the third to take an early 10-0 lead. After Muhlenberg scored a run to keep the game going in the top of the 5th, the Lady Colonels closed it out when Taylor Shemwell drove in her sister Tyler with a base hit in the bottom of the 6th inning to end the game on the 10 run rule.

Tenley Gilbert contributed to the Christian County attack, going 2-3, with two RBIs and a run scored. Macy Lancaster continued her hot hitting of late, going 2-3, with two RBIs. Tyler Shemwell was 1-2, with an RBI, and four runs scored.

In the circle, after struggling a bit in the first inning, Hannah Sumner kept the clamps on the Lady Mustangs, allowing only the one run after the game was already well in hand. Sumner gave up seven hits, struck out three, and walked three.
