Colonels Roll Past Webster County in LIT Opener

The Christian County Colonels scored in their final four at bats to pick up the win in their opening game of the Louisville Invitational Friday night. The Colonels rallied from an early 2-0 deficit to come up with the 9-4 win over the Webster County Trojans, in a game played at Fern Creek High School.

Webster County was leading going into the bottom of the 3rd inning when the Colonels began their rally. Christian County scored two runs in the bottom of the third, with the big hit being a two run double from Wyatt Stevenson.

The Colonels took the lead for good in the bottom of the 4th inning. After three straight walks loaded the bases, Lane Diuguid emptied the bases with a double to put Christian County up 5-2. The Colonels extended the lead to 7-2 in the bottom of the fifth, scoring runs on a ground out and a fielder’s choice.

After Webster trimmed the lead to 7-3 in the top of the 6th, Christian County took advantage of a Webster County error and a walk to plate two more runs in the bottom of the inning. The big hit was a two run single off the bat of Eric Silvy.

The Troajns would add a meaningless run in the top of the 7th to close out the game.

The Colonels picked up the win despite being outhit 10-6. Webster County fielding mistakes hurt the Trojans’ effort. Webster County was charged with four errors in the game.

Lane Diuguid led the Colonels, going 2-4, with a double, 3 RBIs, and a run scored. Wyatt Stevenson was 1-3, with a double, and 2 RBIs. Eric Silvy added to the effort at 1-2, with 2 RBIs, and a run scored.

On the mound, Bryson Brown went the distance for Christian County, giving up four runs, only two of them earned, on 10 hits, striking out four, and walking three.
