Beechwood Ends Lyon County’s Run at the All-A State Tournament

Beechwood showed why they are one of the top baseball teams in the state as they defeated Lyon County 11-1 in five innings in the semifinals of the All-A Classic State Baseball Tournament in Owensboro Sunday. The Ninth Region champs went on to beat Kentucky Country Day 8-1 to win their second straight All-A state title.

Beechwood, ranked No. 5 in the latest coaches’ poll, wasted no time in putting their foot down, scoring seven runs in the first inning. The Tigers used six hits, three walks, and a hit batter to jump out to the 7-0 lead. Beechwood added four more runs in the second inning and finished the game with 11 hits, including three extra base hits.

Lyon County (16-6) got on the board in the fourth inning when Travis Yancy singled ahead of an Aidan Rush double to left. Rush also pitched solid in relief for the Lyons, allowing no runs over the final three innings after a shaky first inning of work. Austin Long took the loss for the Lyons.

Lyon County’s Gabe Board and Jackson Shoulders were named to the All-A Classic State Tournament Team.
