The Lyon County baseball team swept a doubleheader from Madisonville Tuesday in Eddyville, claiming a tight 2-1 decision behind seven strong innings from Austin Long in the opener and blowing-out the Maroons 11-1 in five innings in the second.

The Lyons bounce-back from a loss to Beechwood in the second round of the All-A state tournament to move to 18-7 on the year, while the Maroons slip to 12-11 overall.

Long scattered 5 hits over seven innings in the first game, holding the Maroons to a single run while walking one and striking-out two.  However, the Lyons trailed 1-0 in the bottom of the fifth when they finally got to Madisonville starter Jacob Joseph, with Gabe Board hitting a two-out double to score Christian O’Daniel.

With the game still tied in the bottom of the seventh, O’Daniel led off with a double, followed by a single by Brady Darnall.  O’Daniel would be cut down at home on a fielder’s choice, with Darnall advancing to third.  With a 2-2 count on Jackson Shoulders, Darnall came home on a wild pitch to give the Lyons the walk-off victory.

The Lyons’ second win was much more comfortable, as they jumped on Madisonville starter Jonathan Cain for 5 first-inning runs.  Cain issued three walks and hit a batter, with O’Daniel driving-in 2 with a single.

Leading 6-1 in the bottom of the fourth, Lyon County’s starter Travis Yancy helped his own cause with a 2-run home run to right field, before three-straight RBI doubles by O’Daniel, Darnall and Gunnar Bingham ran the score to 11-1.

Yancy struck-out 9 and walked one, allowing 4 hits to earn the win.  O’Daniel was 2-2 with 3 RBI, followed by Bingham and Yancy with 2 RBI each.
