Hoptown Pitchers Combine to Shut Down UHA in 9-1 Win

Hopkinsville jumped ahead early and never trailed in handing University Heights Academy a 9-1 district baseball loss Thursday at Tiger Field.

Caleb Bapp had three hits to back the pitching of three Tigers who limited the Blazers to four hits in the game.

John Duvall and Aaron Crosby both had RBI singles, and a third Tiger run scored on one of seven UHA errors in the game.

UHA scored in the fifth inning when Drew McGowan walked and scored on a Dan Johnson double to right field.

Layne Jorgensen added a run scoring single and a sacrifice fly to help extend Hoptown’s lead in the sixth inning. Jorgensen and Duvall each had two RBIs for the Tigers, while Landon Snyder chipped in with a pair of singles.

Zach Caudill got the win in relief for Hopkinsville. He allowed one earned run and four hits over 3.2 innings. Preston Chaudoin started and didn’t allow a hit over the first three innings. He struck out three.

Johnson had two hits for UHA, with McGowan and Luke Welch getting the other two.

UHA (10-12) will travel to Marion Saturday to play both Crittenden County and Mayfield.

Hopkinsville (14-6) will host Henderson County Friday.
