VIDEO – State Champion Ward Signs to Wrestle at Lindenwood-Bellevue

5-3-ward

Jasmine Ward has been known for her resiliency throughout her athletic career at Fort Campbell. The hard work she put in paid off Thursday as she signed to wrestle at Lindenwood University-Bellevue.

Ward is a member of the first girls’ wrestling team at Fort Campbell that finished second at the state wrestling tournament. Ward became the school’s first individual state champion in 29 years when she won the 126-pound class at the first state girls’ wresting tournament in February.

Ward demonstrated her ability to bounce back after breaking her arm during her junior season in a match at Fort Knox. She recovered and was a vital part of the Fort Campbell girls’ soccer team in the fall, being named to the All-District team.

Because her ability to bounce back from the injury and claim the state championship, Ward was one of 18 recipients of the Tom Leach All-Resiliency Award, which honors student-athletes from Kentucky high schools who had to overcome adversity to participate and/or excel in sports in the past calendar year.

Ward heads to Lindenwood-Bellevue, an NAIA school in Belleville, Illinois as the first Fort Campbell female wrestler to be awarded a scholarship.
